One of the perpetual favorite places to escape from the daily grind, is the vast and diverse state of California. This state is always on the top of family fun spots because there are so many places to go, and so much to see and do. There are various attractions and destinations that appeal to many different tastes and interests, and as an additional bonus, there is a good chance of nice weather no matter what time of the year the vacation is taken.
No matter whether the family is interested in activities in the cities of California and the big theme parks that are so plentiful, or they are more inclined to enjoy the breathtaking mountains, the lush and ancient forests, or the miles and miles of beautiful beaches, there is no doubt that there are enough travel and tourism to provide many options.
tourist attractions
In fact, vacationing in California will probably mean that there will be much more to see than most families will have time to visit, so there’s not much chance of boredom being a problem during a family vacation in this state.
Most of the time when families start talking about a vacation to California, everyone gets excited about the big tourist attractions that everyone knows about, such as Universal Studios, Disneyland, Sea World, Magic Mountain and Knott’s Berry Farm. But in addition to these major sights, one shouldn’t overlook some of the lesser known, slightly quirky attractions.
vacation packages
For instance, one of the attractions near San Francisco, which is gaining a surprising following, is the Museum of Pez Memorabilia. Yes, that’s right; the little Pez candy dispenser everyone remembers from their youth has been honored with its very own museum. The museum contains not only the officially released Pez dispensers made by the company itself, but also features a collection of some “fantasy Pez dispensers” that have been produced by an “underground” market.
Including some of these off-the-beaten paths, quirky kinds of attractions in the family vacation plans will help make the overall trip even more memorable and fun as well. It’s probably a good bet that your child will be the only one in their class to report that they visited the Pez museum during their vacation travel.
While in the San Francisco area, there are many wonderful sights that should not be missed. The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the world’s most popular attractions, and for good reason. In addition, no visit to San Francisco should be considered complete without a stop by the historic and popular Fisherman’s Wharf or Alcatraz.
vacation deals
Within a couple hours drive of the Bay Area, the Napa Valley awaits visitors with an array of tourist spots all its own. With vineyards to explore, wine tasting, fine gourmet restaurants to delight in, and plush boutique hotels to luxuriate in, it is no wonder why the quaint small towns of the Napa Valley are some of the most popular tourist destinations anywhere in the states.
One of the best ways to enjoy great family Vacation Rentals is to shop for discount cheap vacations, which include the California tourist attractions that your family is most interested in seeing. Many times, families can enjoy cheap vacations because of the savings that they can get through these packages, which often include the hotel rooms, airline tickets, car rental, and even tickets to one or more of the major theme parks.
The most unique aspect of many towns and cities in Ethiopia is their distinctiveness. Probably the best known is Addis Ababa, large and bustling, whereas Harar is a walled city with its roots firmly set in medieval times. By contrast to Addis the town of Axum is remote and located somewhere at the end of the world, while Bahirdar offers the traveler lush tranquility.
Among the most inspiring and charming of places is Gonder Ethiopia with its art-deco Italian elegance. It is on the list of must-to-be-seen in Ethiopia for every traveler. Whichever route tourists take, Gondar is always one of the destinations.
Those who know Gondar well regard it as a very special place amidst 17th century castles that resemble something from a Disney fairytale and its attractive 1930’s architecture. It also offers an amazing array of colorful flowers that tempt one to stay a lot longer than planned.
Gonder Ethiopia is situated in the North - West of Ethiopia, south is Tana Lake and north are the Simien Mountains. Travelers generally come here from Axum, Bahirdar or Simien and if not going further north turn eastward to Lalibela. The road north and east of Gondar is stunning.
This part of the Abyssinian plateau provides one of the greatest adventures in this region but is the most difficult to travel if we are talking about the main roads in the north of Ethiopia. The road to Axum was built by the Italians in 1930s when they occupied Ethiopia and is to this day, still regarded as a great achievement. The road crawls up and down with hairpin bends that stretch for many kilometers. It passes over the Simien mountain range, the highest in Ethiopia, and that makes it a firm favorite with travelers.
Trekking over the Simien Mountains is becoming more popular, tempting those who want the adventure of visiting one of the few remaining un-spoilt travel destinations. This is undoubtedly one of those places, but for how long will it remain so ?
No matter how you reach Gondar, its appeal will cause you to want to stay longer than you planned. For the traveler seeking to immerse themselves in history it is a location rich in ancient history and stunning scenic views.
Hub of the Empire
Gonder came into being as a trading post on the long distance routes that merchants used to carry gold, ivory and slaves. It is difficult to determine the precise time at which Gondar became such an important trading hub.
It is however clear, that Gonder’s rise is closely tied to the movement of the empire’s political center that occurred in the 17th century. From that point in time, Gonder began to be the first capital of Ethiopia since the Axumite Empire.
During the so called “Gondarine Empire” and for some time after, the Emperor traveled with his court and ruled from pitched encampments. Gonder remained at the center of political power in the Empire until the middle of the 19th century after which time it was forsaken and slowly declined.
Italians came to Ethiopia in 1936. They started and won a bloody war, and occupied the country. Emperor Selassie I, conscious that staying in the country would mean death to him and those close to him, escaped to Europe to continue his struggle in excile. By the time of occupation by Italy, Gondar had been long forgotten, its ancient castles becoming ruins.
But this town charmed and became a favorite place of the Italian occupiers. Those who destroyed the country and killed its people brought about a new beginning for Gondar. They made it the capital of the newly formed Amhara region and began the construction of houses, hotels and government buildings.
They also created a man-made lake, just to give the Governer a view from his residency what is now one of the most attractive Gonder hotels. The town was created in an art-deco style, where Italian coffee houses and restaurants were plentiful and that is true to the present day.

Windsor, Ontario is an exciting industrial city bordering Detroit, Michigan. Windsor offers Detroit residents a taste of life on the wild side. This most southerly Canadian city of 215,000 hearty souls bordering the Detroit River, Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair offers visitors casino gambling, and titillating strip clubs with colorful names like, Studio Four, Million Dollar Saloon and Leopards Lounge. The sale of Cuban cigars is legal and the company of an escort is just a phone call a way.
Because the drinking age is 19, carloads of under-21 teens, mostly males, from nearby Detroit, frequently traverse the Ambassador Bridge for a five-minute ride to male adolescent, testosterone driven nirvana. The border crossing between Windsor and Detroit is the busiest, which generates the majority of trade between Canada and the United States. With a temperate climate and relatively mild temperatures in the winter months, Windsor is a popular haven for weekend jaunts to let loose and have some fun.
After 3 beautiful miles of the colorful gardens, sculptures and fountains, lies the famous Hiram Walker distillery. Hiram Walkers is known for the production of Canadian Club Whiskey. Tourists looking to do some whiskey tast testing can take a nice tour of the said haunted Hiram Walker plant.
Refurbished Casino
After given an expensive Vegas style face list, the casino Windsor changed it’s name to Caesars Windsor. This government owned casino now offers all the Vegas style, opulence and splendor that is synonymous with the Caesar’s brand. Roman inspired d?cor was included in some of the casino’s improvements. Foutains and statues of Zeus, Caesar and the Three Graces can be seen in the hotel lobby. A new look created for Caesars Windsor hotel makes it one of the most luxurious of the Windsor Ontario Hotels.
Appropriately named, The Colosseum caters to 5,000 spectators entertained by top performers. Prohibted by Ontario law, free drinks are not available at this casino. The beautiful updated surroundings, top dining establishments and entertainment, more than make up for the lack of free alcohol.
Windsor Waterfront
Windsor’s scenic riverfront offers spectacular river views and beautiful beaches and gardens. Couple that with shopping, entertainment and luxurious Windsor Hotels. Numerous opportunities for canoe and boat excursions can be had since there is no shortage of yacht clubs and marinas. Dieppe Gardens, a popular riverfront park, is home to many summer festivals. And don’t forget the Freedom Festival held annualy in Downtown Windsor. Another beautiful sight along the Detroit River on the Windsor side is the Peace Fountain, which floats in the water and offers a nightly spectacle of colored lights. Other attractions include the Odette Sculpture Park, which features dozens of massive contemporary sculptures and the Coventry Gardens, another beautiful serene spot.
The City of Windsor hosts over 180 parks and counting covering more than 3,000 acres. California is a grand state in more ways than one. Not only is it one of the largest states but it also has more tourist attractions and tourist destinations than any other single state in the Union.
For some people, the only problem with vacationing in the Golden State is that they wish they had more time to take in all the sights. Finding cheap hotels is one way that people can max out their budget and perhaps spend a couple of extra days exploring the wonders of California.
cheap hotels
For most people who do not have the luxury of an unlimited amount of time and money to take in all of the sights and tourist attractions that California has to offer, the best way to go is to target a certain area where there are a number of different activities that appeal to everyone who is traveling on the trip.
Finding a cheap hotel is a good option as a “base camp,” not only for the budget-friendly factor but because most of the vacation time is not going to be spent in hotel rooms but will be spent out enjoying the tourist attractions that you came to see anyway.
Many times people spend a lot of extra time fussing about the amenities in their hotel rooms and then end up barely doing more than sleeping, showering and changing clothes in the room. In that case, why not save some money by booking cheap hotels and put more cash in your pocket to use as you go out and about exploring all that the area has to offer.
tourist attractions
There are many options for vacation packages all around California. The majority of these are still very nice, clean and comfortable places to stay. In most instances, the rooms found in low-cost accommodations have everything you need to be comfortable and usually include the extras, such as high-speed internet access as well.
Many of the cheaper hotels, especially in the Golden State, have pool facilities and often have laundry facilities on site. Having access to a washer and dryer to freshen up your wardrobe can be especially nice if you have tried to pack light but are staying for more than just a few days.
The good thing is that the cost of the laundry facilities will be similar to taking your clothes to a Laundromat, but much more convenient, and also much cheaper than the laundry services of some of the more expensive hotels in the area.
When traveling around California, it is quite easy to find cheap accommodations quite close to all of the major tourist attraction destinations. Especially during the off season, rooms are abundantly available and hotels will even be fighting over you to get your business.
vacation deals
In addition, there are many package vacation deals that you can find that will include your hotel rooms, your air tickets, your car rental and even the passes for the major theme parks that are nearby.
There is also an increasing number of hotels that offer lower rates when you book a stay for a week or more. Some of these cheap hotels are designed especially for these extended stays. The trade off might be that you don’t get daily housekeeping services, but otherwise you will have all of the benefits but at a much lower cost.
Say the words Cath?drale de Notre-Dame and what springs to mind? For you it may be the scene where L?on tries to seduce Emma in Madame Bovary, the image of one of Monet’s many vivid paintings, or the tomb containing the heart of Richard the Lionheart, but I personally think of Quasimodo and Esmeralda in Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. One of France’s most beautiful Gothic Masterpieces, the Notre Dame is as vivid in real life as it appears in the films.
So, get out of your Paris apartments and make a day of seeing this beautiful cathedral, open from 2-6pm Mon; 8am-6pm Tue-Sun, admission to the cathedral is free. The Notre Dame was reconstructed fter the second World War due to the destruction caused by shelling. The building that now stands there is the third church to have stood on the exact same site, as over the years different events have caused the church’s destruction. The first church was created in the third century, the second was ransacked by the Vikings, and most of what you see nowadays was created in the 12th and 13th centuries – so you can be assured, it’s pretty old! The church also received a battering during the radical phase of the French Revolution in the 1790s, when much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed.
Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. The name Notre Dame means “Our Lady” in French and this cathedral was one of the first Gothic cathedrals, and its construction spanned the Gothic period. Its sculptures and stained glass show the heavy influence of naturalism, unlike that of earlier Romanesque architecture.
Make sure this is on your list of destinations to see during your weekend or week long break to Paris, luckily the cathedral is centrally located in Paris, and nearby you will find lots of shops, restaurants and sweet French cafes, amongst lots of Paris accommodation.
Planning a fun vacation just for two in hopes of landing that relaxing trip which makes the wait worthwhile? Well, among your many travel options, there are some you might not normally think of.

When you are going on an Overland Tours it is often a hard decision whether to go on group tours or use a private tour guide for your travels. While the benefits of private tours may be great they can however be expensive, in some cases you may even have more fun on group tours, and the variety of people can be a complimentary element to your trip.
It is not always the financial aspects however that defines the difference between private and group tours. You may happily be able to afford either one so choose one in line with your preferences rather than in line with your wallet. The choice of tours can make a great difference to the quality of your African Safari. Get the choice wrong and you could be bickering with loved ones all the way, get it right and a magical vacation full of fun and entertaining tours will become apparent.
So what are the considerations to make when deciding between private and group tours for your vacation? Here are a few pointers for lost travellers.
The first reason to choose group rather than private tours is if you are travelling alone. Sometimes travelling alone can be ultimately fun, but if you feel that you may get bored or even feel lonely then group tours are the perfect solution to meet people and find great times. The people on your tour can be from all over the world giving you a microcosm of the globe all on one tour bus. In addition, women who are travelling to less well developed countries will benefit from the security that group tours bring over private ones.
For those with a logical mind group tours offer the best way to see all of the sites quickly efficiently. Tour guides will have a strictly laid out itinerary that must be stuck to, meaning that you as a traveller see as many of the sites as possible while on your vacation. While members of your party may well be photo happy, do not fear, you will not be held up by their incessant snapping; the tour guide will soon drag them along so they can adhere to the schedule.
In some European countries private tours can cost as much as double as the group ones. While those travelling in large families may find it a cost effective measure to go private, smaller families and couples will definitely find group touring a more appealing option.
Despite the increased cost, there are many travellers who use private tours for a variety of reasons.
One of these is that a private tour will enable you to control your itinerary, laying out exactly what sites you want to see and schedule for this sightseeing. Going private does not necessarily mean that you are a control freak; it just means that you like to have flexibility in the way you travel. It may be an option, if you cannot afford private tours to look into the different group schedules to see how much flexibility is available to you.
If you prefer to avoid the usual tourist traps a private tour guide is the ideal solution to seeing unique attractions, and even the chance to sample the local pass times. Another benefit of private tours are that they enable you to enjoy your vacation without having to put up with other members of the group that you may dislike, for those with a short temper this can be considered a powerful lure.
So wherever you are vacationing weigh the benefits of private and group tours. Whether you are looking for a totally unique trip or just want to see the sights as quickly as possible both can fulfil a need. While cost may be a factor, it is worth remembering that your vacation time is of high value to you, do not miss the chance to relax and enjoy yourself, no matter how you decide to tour your destination.

Morocco is the must see destination for many world savvy travelers who want an experience that will remain with them for years to come. Morocco is not a small country, and occupies 446, 550 sq km – more if you choose to include the Western Sahara.
Imagine the scents and sounds of this captivating African country with over 33.2 million people where you will find medinas (shopping areas) and some of the most spectacular landscapes you will ever see. Historically Morocco has always been the “in between country”, a crossroads of sorts in the midst of Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
If you want magic, Morocco is the place to see and be. Visit the mysterious cities of Casablanca (move over Humphrey Bogart), Rabat and Essaouira. While some of the names may be hard to pronounce, the cities themselves are open and welcoming visitors from abroad. Time stands still in these locations and it is hard to tear yourself away from the intriguing sights and sounds. Alternatively, you may also love Marrakech Medina holiday and Cape Town holiday which both have a who host of culture themselves.
Travel the coastline and stop into small picturesque towns as you admire the mountains of the Rif. Ahhh the delights of puttering along in a dynamic country at your own unhurried pace. This will be a place you will never forget. Listen to the delightful blend of the languages spoken in Morocco - Arabic, French and Berber.
Morocco borders with Algeria and Mauritania. The Algeria border is closed, but Mauritania is open but with no public transport. You might want to private hire a vehicle to explore. Make sure you have your money changed into Dirhams (Dh), which is the local currency. For instance one US dollar equals Dh 8.5.
When you arrive you will receive a 90-day visa for most nationalities, but check with your travel agent prior to leaving in case you need something different. If you want to enjoy the hot weather then make plans to arrive in Morocco between June and August. If cooler weather suits you just fine, then head there for November to February.
Personally, I just love the different contrast you get from visiting a wonderful country such as Morocco. There is literally so much to see and do here that you can quite easily just lose yourself in the moment and just zone out into nature and see how the other side of the world live. Amazing stuff!
